The Shajar al-Durr Ring carries a dome-like stone flanked by two rows of muqarnas, a main feature in the vaulting of any dome in Cairo. The Sultana Shajar al-Durr is the first Mamluk ruler, she introduced the first dome in the city when in 1250, she built a Mausoleum in honour of her husband, al-Salih Nijm al-Din Ayyub and boldly placed the dome inside his madrasa in the heart of Cairo. Shajar al-Durr has established a new architectural tradition and today; the Mamluk domes have become major landmarks in Cairo’s skyline. The stone atop the ring is a 28ct Amethyst, the ring is also inscribed with the calligraphy, “Endearment and Mercy” - "موده و رحمه".
